OLYMPIA…Sen. Val Stevens, R-Arlington, today announced she has sent an open letter to Washington’s U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and her own U.S. Representative, Rick Larsen urging them to reject President Obama’s “public health option.”
“The more I learn about this damaging legislation from British and Canadian experts who live every day with government-run health care, the more alarmed I become,” Stevens said. “In fact, the fastest-growing segment of Canadian health care is private clinics – Canadians are actually trying to return to free-market health care because government-run care is massively bureaucratic and dangerously slow.
“At a recent meeting of the American Legislative Exchange Council, Daniel Hannan, a member of the European Parliament from southeast England and a journalist educated at Oxford, spoke at length about the failed socialist health care system we are being asked to accept. He begged the United States to avoid making Britain’s socialized medicine mistake because, once made, it is virtually irreversible.
“I hope Senators Murray and Cantwell and Representative Larsen will take the time to carefully read the ‘public health plan’ bill and listen to the warnings of those who have been forced down that path.”
