Detectives investigate bones found near Index

The Sheriff’s Office today recovered what appear to be human bones in a remote area near Index.
The bones were discovered Wednesday by a fisherman. He called authorities Wednesday night to report the find. Detectives and deputies, along with the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, went out to the area today and collected bones.
We do not know the gender or identity of the person, how long the bones have been there or how the person died. The Medical Examiner’s Office will try to determine cause and manner of death as well as identification. It is unknown how long this will take.
At this point, detectives are referring to the case as a death investigation.
