At 0207 Hours on 11/14/09 the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Fire District 1 were called to the 17600 block of North Road for a motor vehicle accident where a single vehicle left the road and struck a tree. Arriving personnel found the vehicle had been occupied by 4 males ages 20 to 22, all from the Lynnwood area.
Two occupants of the vehicle were deceased. The two surviving occupants were transported to Harborview where at 0600 HRS this morning one was listed in critical condition and the other was listed in serious condition.
There was massive damage to the vehicle requiring fire personnel to spend 1.5 hours cutting the occupants from the vehicle.
Initial speed estimates indicate that the vehicle traveling north bound left the roadway at 70 to 80 miles per hour. The speed limit in that area is 35 miles per hour. The vehicle left the roadway after failing to negotiate a turn that is posted with a 25 mile per hour discretionary speed sign. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Unit is handling the ongoing investigation in which speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
