Stevens says I-960 suspension is tax-vote cover-up

OLYMPIA…When Senate Democrats finally succeeded in completely dismantling Initiative 960 late Wednesday night, Sen. Val Stevens, R-Arlington, issued the following statement:
“This is a giant step into darkness. Our citizens are clamoring for more government transparency, not less,” Stevens said. “It’s deeply disturbing that Senate Democrats voted to lock Washington citizens out of the process. It was bad enough yesterday when they removed the two-thirds majority vote, making it possible for them to raise taxes at will. Now they’re purposely preventing the voters from conveniently learning which legislators are spending their money like water.”
Substitute Senate Bill 6130 passed on a vote of 26 to 22 and now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
