(SEATTLE, March 10, 2010) – Statewide, thousands of Washington military service members and their families will get much needed emergency and financial support from Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to troops and their families. The organization has chartered a chapter, based in Seattle and serving military families statewide.
“After developing for over a year, we are excited to become a chartered chapter of Operation Homefront, serving our Washington service members and their families that sacrifice so much on a daily basis,” said John McDonagh, Washington Chapter President. “With the help of numerous volunteers, corporations and organizations, Operation Homefront of Washington will continue to grow and be able to assist even more service members and their families in the coming months and years.”
The chapter’s primary goals will be to provide emergency aid for troops; offer financial assistance during crises dealing with home and appliance repair, rent assistance, and food assistance; help wounded warriors in transition to civilian life; help children and spouses stay in touch with their deployed loved ones through computer programs; assist troops and their families with a number of social outreach events for the holidays and back- to-school supplies.
Johnetta Jackson, a military wife, received assistance in one of Operation Homefront’s holiday events. ”I really want to thank Operation Homefront for the great time and wonderful gift on Christmas Eve. It was truly a blessing. I was able to shop afterwards and get my four children some things I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to buy. It was priceless to see their happy faces and for just a little while not to have them wishing daddy was home. You all do awesome things for military and their families,” Jackson said.
