EVERETT WA (November 30, 2010)--The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross has been granted 7,500 phone cards totaling roughly 495 million minutes from the National Red Cross to distribute to active duty and reserve service members of Snohomish County.
American Red Cross Snohomish County plans to donate 4,000 of these phone cards to Enlisted Sailors at Naval Station Everett, and send care packages with the phone cards to Sailors serving aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), USS Momsen (DDG 92), USS Shoup (DDG 86), USS Ingraham (FFG 61), USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60), and USS Ford (FFG 54).
“Each card has 250 minutes on it, for landline use in the US and its territories,” said Chuck Morrison, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Snohomish County Chapter in Everett. “Our intentions are to give one to every Enlisted Sailor, or, if they’ve shipped out, to forward them to their intermediate destination.”
“The greatest gift for family members during the holiday season is the ability to stay in touch with their Sailor stationed away from home or on deployment,” said Capt. Michael Coury, Commanding Officer Naval Station Everett.
