The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Snohomish County (RSVP) sponsored by Catholic Community Services held the 39th Annual Volunteer Recognition  Event  May 24 and 25 in Everett.  The luncheons were held over two days to accommodate the nearly 300 RSVP volunteers in attendance.  Four volunteers earned the President’s “Call to Service” lifetime service award, given to those with more than 4,000 hours of lifetime volunteering.  The recipients were Barbara Larson, Mountlake
Terrace, Ed Dinkelocker, Edmonds, Jeanne Matthews of Stanwood and Cliff Pearson of Lynnwood.  This award is presented by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in recognition and appreciation of commitment to strengthening our Nation and for making a difference through volunteer service.

County Executive Aaron Reardon spoke about volunteer services being instrumental to community well-being. “In so many ways, it’s volunteers who make sure the work we must complete actually gets done,” Reardon said.  “Especially in today’s economic climate, where finances for programs have become tighter and tighter, volunteers are relied upon more and more.”

Last year, 1,079 RSVP volunteers provided over 170,000 hours of ”Volunteer Service as a Solution” to 116 nonprofit agencies in Snohomish County.  RSVP matches people 55 years and over with meaningful volunteer opportunities in their communities.  For more information, please contact Paulette Jacobson or John McAlpine at 425-257-2111.
