Transportation Commission to propose new ferry fares and discuss I-405 express toll lanes

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Transportation Commission has scheduled two special meetings for June 29. At a morning meeting in Seattle, the commission will initiate the 2011 ferry fare setting process. During an afternoon meeting in Bellevue, the commission will hear from local officials and take public comment on its study of express toll lanes on the I-405 corridor.
The meeting to initiate fare setting will take place in the Puget Sound Regional Council Boardroom, 1011 Western Avenue, Suite 500, Seattle, starting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 29.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will present to the commission its recommendations for new ferry tariffs. WSDOT also will provide a summary of the public input it received from a series of community meetings held during June and from the Ferry Advisory Committee. Ed Sutton, Chair of the Ferry Advisory Committee – Tariff (FAC – T) Subcommittee also will speak to the commission. The commission will consider the WSDOT recommendations and FAC – T comments and then formally propose ferry tariff revisions. Before adjourning at noon, the commission also will adopt a schedule for community outreach meetings and public comment opportunities on the proposed ferry tariff revisions.
The meeting regarding I-405 express toll lanes will take place in the Council Chamber at Bellevue City Hall, 450 110th Avenue NE, Bellevue from 2 to 4 pm, Wednesday, June 29.
The 2011 Legislature authorized express toll lanes on I-405 between I-5 on the north end and Northeast 6th Street in Bellevue on the south end. The legislation directs the Transportation Commission to conduct a traffic and revenue analysis of a 40-mile continuous express toll lane system that includes SR 167 and I-405. Briefings on the express toll lanes project and study will be followed by comments from members of the I-405 Executive Advisory Group, including:
· Grant Degginger, Councilman, City of Bellevue
· Dave Gossett, Chair, Snohomish County Council
· Sonny Putter, Councilman, City of Newcastle
· Sue Singer, Deputy Mayor, City of Auburn
A public comment period is scheduled from 3:20 p.m. to 4 p.m.
