BURLINGTON – The second big 87-hour-long lane closure begins tonight. By midday Tuesday, hour delays and several-mile-long backups are possible on northbound Interstate 5 between Burlington and Bellingham.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close the right lane of northbound I-5 for 12 miles from 7 p.m. Monday, July 25, to 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, between the Chuckanut Drive interchange and Nulle Road interchange. Northbound on- and off-ramps will also be closed at times.

Stop-and-go traffic and delays are expected all day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The longest delays are likely between 2 and 6 p.m. each day. The travel graph shows the shortest delays and backups before 7 a.m. and after 8 p.m. each day.

Drivers are urged to find alternate routes or reschedule trips to avoid traveling through the construction area during peak travel times.
