SEATTLE – Drivers planning to carry flammable cargo across the Interstate 90 floating bridge this week will need to use an alternate route for two days.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews will restrict flammable cargo in both directions of I-90 between the Mount Baker Tunnel and the Mercer Island Lid from 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The restriction will be in effect while upgraded computer control equipment is installed which will require environmental and fire control systems to be disabled.
During the restriction, drivers transporting flammable materials across Lake Washington should use alternate routes such as Interstate 405, State Route 520 or State Route 522. Drivers transporting flammable materials on westbound I-90 must exit at Island Crest Way (Exit #7) on Mercer Island. Eastbound drivers transporting flammable materials must exit at Rainier Avenue South (Exit #3) in Seattle.
