On November 1, 2011, Mr. Joshua Monson, 28, was attending his court hearing on a felony drug charge. During the afternoon session of the hearing, Monson was leaning over some paperwork in front of his attorney when he grabbed a pen and attempted to stab his attorney in the head. Mr. Monson was subdued by an Arlington Police Officer, who was in attendance to testify in the hearing, and a Snohomish County Corrections Officer. During the arrest, an electric stun cuff attached to the leg of Monson was activated to aid in the arrest. The defense attorney suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Mr. Monson has been involved in two similar incidents during previous hearings. In those instances, he stabbed his defense attorney in the neck with a small pencil. Charges are pending on both of those assaults. Mr. Monson also has charges pending for assaulting two corrections officers on two separate occasions at the Snohomish County Jail.
