SNOHOMISH – Drivers should plan ahead for a full closure of eastbound US 2 between 20th Street Southeast/SR 204 and State Route 9 from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24. During the closure, crews will cut into the highway to remove and replace two deteriorating culverts.
Drivers can choose alternate routes around the closure or follow a signed detour on 20th Street Southeast and SR 9. The detour will add 10 to 15 minutes to most trips, but drivers traveling Saturday and Sunday afternoons should expect congestion, with up to 20 minutes of extra travel time.
Crews will also close the eastbound US 2 ramps to and from Bickford Avenue from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. A signed detour using 56th Street Southeast and SR 9 will be provided.
This is the second-to-last directional closures of US 2 in Snohomish to allow crews to replace five corroded culverts underneath the highway with new pipes make of thick, heavy, rubberized plastic. Drivers should plan for a final closure of westbound US 2 next weekend, Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.
This work is part of the US 2/Bickford Avenue intersection safety and culvert replacement project. For details, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US2/BickfordSafety. For more information on closures in Snohomish County, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/Snohomish/Construction.
