EVERETT, Wash. - Sailors from the guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86), part of the Nimitz Strike Group, will depart for its Western Pacific deployment Wednesday, Jan. 9.
Shoup's mission as she deploys with a crew of approximately 300 sailors will focus on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts, which help establish conditions for regional stability.
In November 2012, the Navy announced a delay in deployment as the result of an emergent maintenance requirement for USS Nimitz (CVN 68). This delay does not affect Shoup's deployment.
