Five women, ages 18 to 24, were doing more than just serving coffee at the Grab-n-Go coffee stand in Everett, police said. According to Everett Police, the women were charged with prostitution last week after exposing themselves and allowing customers to touch their breasts for money, which is against the city’s laws.
As well it should be. While it is somewhat understandable what the attraction of these “bikini baristas” is to men, it has never been clear why women would stop by these places and buy their coffee.
Do women actually buy coffee at these coffee stands or are the owners losing half, if not more, of their potential customers by catering to men? They obviously make decent money or more and more of these bikini baristas would not continue to pop up, many of which seem to be showing up around Everett.
According to reports, Everett City Council is planning to decide whether or not they will change their lewd conduct law to include espresso stands.
When women know they are getting paid to serve coffee in their bikinis and to be gawked at in the process, it stands to reason that sooner or later someone will offer them money to show a little more skin. It is not surprising that touching soon followed.
Everett City, along with other cities that currently allow these types of establishments; need to change their laws regarding espresso stands. There is no need to have your coffee made by someone wearing a bikini. It doesn’t taste any better, cost any less or get to you any faster than if they were fully dressed.
More than just the obvious modesty issue, fall is upon us and don’t these girls get cold serving coffee through a window in their skimpy swimming suits?
It also seems that there may be some women out there who are being discriminated against because of their bodies. Can someone who is a size 12 work at one of these places? How about men? Anyone remember that Seinfeld episode?
Bikini baristas should be outlawed, not just because of the lewd behavior that is allegedly going on at some of these establishments but also because it isn’t necessary to have your coffee served to you by someone in a bikini – well, maybe if they were beach baristas/lifeguards.
