Jarydd Morgan, an incoming junior at Lake Stevens High School, has followed his passion for performing arts all the way to the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Morgan, a frequent participant in school plays, will be performing in the theatre’s summer production of Rent: School Edition.

Rent: School Edition, is the third production the Seattle Children’s Theatre has had this summer. Morgan has performed for the Seattle Children’s Theatre for the past three years, appearing in R&J, a modern-day telling of Romeo and Juliet, and Medieval Farces.

As part of the ensemble cast, Morgan will perform in a variety of songs and scenes.
“I do a lot of the big show numbers,” Morgan said.
Morgan’s interest in performing began a few years back.
“I started [performing] in middle school, when it [Performing Arts] was one of the classes we could take,” he said.

Morgan has continuously been active in student performances. This spring he was an ensemble member in Beauty and the Beast at Lake Stevens High School.

The cast of Rent: School Edition consists of mainly high school students from the Puget Sound area. The theatre’s version of the popular Broadway musical is less risqué then the original, but as Morgan explains the story is very much the same.

“They have cut out some of the more profane words, but it still doesn’t take away anything from the story.”
Rent: School Edition opened at the Seattle Children’s Theatre located at 201 Thomas St. Seattle and ran from July 31 through August 2.
