Our family would like to thank several local businesses for supporting our sons, Ryan and Mark Lavering, in their Eagle Scout projects. A huge thanks to Riverside Sand & Gravel on Dubuque Road for donating gravel for the Catherine Creek Disc Golf Course project; and to Lake Stevens Dominoes Pizza for donating delicious pizza for all the volunteers; and also to Tom Thumb for donating milk as well as to Lowe’s and Albertson’s for discounts given on other supplies needed to make these two Eagle Scout projects successful. We are sincerely grateful for the support of these businesses as well as the many volunteers in this community who contributed to these projects.
The Lavering Family Lake Stevens Obama continues to create ways to increase taxes Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to yet another one of Carolyn’s out of touch letters. A president is not only judged upon what he has done but what he is trying to do. Let’s start by looking at what he has done, Health Care. A trillion dollar bill that in the end will cost four to five times that and result in worse care which will be paid for by hard working Americans through higher and new taxes. Next up is the stimulus, the printing of 700 plus billion dollars out of thin air, of which only $250 billion has actually been spent. Why? So it can be used to bribe politicians to go along with his agenda, as the recent health care vote proved. Now look at what he is trying to do. Cap & Trade, which should be called Cap & Tax because that is what it is, a tax on everything that will be passed on to the consumer. It’s another way to siphon money from hard working Americans without them being aware of it. Next we can look at his support for the VAT (Value Added Tax), yet another tax on everything that is hidden from view. Do we see a pattern here yet? Then of course comes the biggest tax of all, inflation. Do you honestly believe that this amount of deficit spending and creation of money will happen without consequence? Every single thing people buy will cost more money and this will hurt the poor more than anyone. Of course the left wing wants the poor to stay poor and reliant on government to keep their vote, that is their idea of compassion. By the way, the estate tax was lowered by George Bush, not Obama. Obama wants to increase the estate tax tremendously. You tell us to stop complaining about tax increases that don’t exist? Try opening your eyes and seeing the ones that do exist and are coming. Just because something doesn’t have the word tax in the title doesn’t mean it isn’t a tax. Perhaps you are content with condemning your children to a life of debt, mediocrity and hardship but luckily the majority of Americans are not, as November will prove.

Depnding on nuclear energy puts our children at risk
Dear Editor,
I have one word to say to guest editorialist Don C. Brunell regarding his editorial “Too much wind power’’, that is, Chernobyl. The nuclear disaster there caused the nearby city of Prypiat to be abandoned and turned an 18-mile radius area into a dead zone which will be unlivable for thousands of years. Just go to YouTube and put in Chernobyl and see the videos of the heartbreaking effect on the children from that area who were exposed. They are still being born deformed and still dying from cancers. Nuclear power is just too dangerous, there will always be human error and mechanical and computer breakdowns, on this scale a nuclear disaster is unthinkable. I hope Don will rethink his ideas, no saving of money should put us and our children at risk.
