Relay for Life luminaria ceremony-touching tribute
Luminaria is an inspiring part of Relay for Life. Hundreds of white paper bags will be illuminated from within and line the stadium area at Lake Stevens High School.
The lights are lit all night long as participants walk and run the track during the event. Anyone who has known someone with cancer can dedicate a bag in memory of or in honor of as a survivor or simply as a witness to someone’s current fight with cancer.
Bags will be available at the track day of until 9 p.m. or visit www.RelayForLife.org to donate on-line.
Our city’s Relay for Life begins May 10 at 6 p.m. with an emotion-filled survivor lap and the Luminaria ceremony at 10:30 p.m. These elements of Relay for Life are open to the public. Come! See for yourself this great event right here in Lake Stevens to both support the battle with cancer and also celebrate the good things happening.
A lot of time and resources have been pooled to make Luminaria happen. A big thanks to Sunnycrest Elementary school ASB for hosting a food drive. The families and staff were generous and over 1,500 food items were donated to be used first as weights in the bags and then to stock our food bank and Li’l Hungry Hearts’ shelves. Wow!
Also, to Rob Jones at Safeway for supporting the drive. And especially, Cindy Brengman at Sunnyside Preschool and Kim Demary who didn’t hesitate to donate supplies to help create this special event for so many people.
Put Relay for Life on your calendar this week. Come see what it’s all about and share in a wonderful night.
