The Village Theatre’s production of The Full Monty couldn’t have come at a better time. With the current recession, the theme of this fun and energetic musical resonates with many during these tough economic times.
The cunning and wit of these out-of-work “Joes” shows just how creative and resilient people can be when desperate times call for desperate measures.
The directing was phenomenal and the lyrics were fun and easy to understand. Even the dance numbers were clever in their attempt to show just how bad some of these men were when it came to being performers.
The audience came away with smiles on their faces and an appreciation for those who are struggling with bringing in money at this time.
At times, the audience gasped with laughter at the shock of seeing one “auditioner” drop his pants, revealing his backside to the audience.
The show was definitely produced for adults with its language and content.
However, the story was focused more on how people survive in tough times and how a sense of humor can bring a person through almost anything they may encounter.
The Full Monty will continue at The Village Theatre through Nov. 21.
