BY DAVE JEDLICKA | CONTRIBUTING WRITER Another notch was put in the belt of the dynasty that is the Lake Stevens High School wrestling program, as Coach Brent Barnes and his team won the 2007 Mat Classic, the high school wrestling championship tournament in Washington. The Vikings had thirteen participants in the 19th annual event. Nine of those Vikings ended up on the podium finishing in the top eight.

“Every state championship is special in its own way”, said Coach Barnes, “We’ve accomplished some great things in the past by winning back to back titles and having a four-time individual winner, but this year, tying the record for most placers is something that shows the quality of the program”.

Included in those nine medalists were two state champions – Zack Zweifel at 103 pounds and Kelly Kubec at 130 pounds. Zweifel won an all Lake Stevens
