City of LS looking
for community input
The City of Lake Stevens wants to broaden its horizons and establish job opportunities within the city. The city hopes that all of this will come to fruition in the not so distant future by bringing the property located between Highway 9, U.S. 2 and 24th Street NE into the city limits. “Lake Stevens has had this area in our comprehensive plan knowing that the City is going to need a larger job base and economic center to sustain the projected population,” Jan Berg, Lake Stevens City Administrator said.
This property has been in the city’s comprehensive plan for several years, however the City of Snohomish along with the Bellevue company SR9/US 2, a major land holder in the area, would also like to see the property within their city limits. It will be up to the county to decide.
Lake Stevens city has hired the Tacoma based firm of AHBL to create the master plan by studying land use and transportation in the area along with the ideas and concerns of citizens living there.
One of the reasons the city chose to use this firm was because citizen involvement is so important to the process of planning.
“We picked AHBL because they start with citizen’s input from the very beginning,” Berg said.
To begin the process the city will be holding three meetings for community members and residents living in the area and encourages all who are interested to get involved in the planning process.
The first meeting will be held tomorrow night, Thursday, Feb. 7 and will discuss the vision the city and the residents have for the area.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, which will discuss the framework with the last meeting being on Wednesday, March 12, which will include the concept for the area.
The idea is to focus each meeting on one particular thing and then take those ideas back and move forward from there into the next meeting.
All meetings will be held at Cavelero Mid High School, 8220 24th St. SE from 7 to 9 p.m.
