The Chicken is found roosting in the LSHS parking lot

Senior class practical joke continues even with one chicken missing in action BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR Students at Lake Stevens High School arrived at school last Thursday, only to find the five-foot “chicken” hanging from a crane truck in the school’s parking lot.

Lake Stevens seniors throughout the last three decades have made it a tradition to “steal” the chicken every year and display it somewhere in the community.

This year’s senior pranksters added an “08” in purple on the front of the hanging bird.

This chicken was the original, which first showed up at The Chicken Drive-In in Frontier Village back in 1968. Rhonda and Dave Huber owned the old drive-in and the chicken and loaned the pesky poultry for this year’s senior prank.

In 2007, Trisha Akerlund bought the old Viking Drive-In and renamed it The Chicken Drive-In, after the original. She also had a new replica of the chicken made in hopes of helping to carry on the tradition at the high school.

However, earlier this year her chicken was stolen from the front of the store and has not been seen since. There have even been fliers posted around town and a website made in hopes of finding the chicken and bringing it back home to roost.

Caleb Hinds and Trevor Brovold are the senior classmen who were able to keep the tradition alive again this year with ingenuity and a little help from Hinds family.

Where will the notorious chicken end up next year? That is yet to be seen.
