House fire breaks out in mobile home community

Building a total loss, family is displaced BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR The mobile home fire took everything from the family. Flames and smoke filled the sky over Frontier Vista Mobile Home Park last Wednesday, August 6, as firefighters fought the two-alarm blaze off of 91st Ave. and 13th Place SE in Lake Stevens.

Firefighters were called in from Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Getchell, Snohomish and Marysville to fight the fire, which killed several pets. All of the home’s occupants were uninjured, according to Deputy Chief Dave Lingenfelter from Lake Stevens Fire.

The mobile home, owned by John and Lenna Ledfors, caught fire on the outside deck. The family tried to douse the fire with a fire extinguisher but to no avail.

“The homeowner saw it was starting to make penetration,” Lake Stevens Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said. “He gave a valiant effort.”
The fire quickly spread to the interior of the home.

“The fire started on the deck and progressed into the home through the sliding glass doors,” Marshall said. “It created an oven underneath the aluminum canopy of the deck.”

It is an accidental fire, Snohomish County Fire Investigator Gary Bontrager said.

“It appears to be from smoking,” he said, adding that there was a propane tank being stored on the deck.

“The fire could have been smoldering,” Marshal said. “The temperature under the deck and outside and the free flow of oxygen made it easier for the fire to start.”

The home was a total loss with estimated damages of over $175,000. The home next door sustained over $20,000 worth of damage, mainly from smoke.

“The home next door had their windows blown out,” Lingenfelter said.

The Red Cross provided the family with temporary lodging, food and clothing. They are also accepting donations to help the family. Donations can be sent to the Red Cross, 2530 Lombard Ave. Everett, Wash. 98201 or go online to www.snohomishcounty.redcross.org.

The Homeowners Association at Forest Vista Estates is also accepting donations at 1305 93rd Ave. SE.
