News Release

The police department responded to 510 incidents in the week of August 03, 2008 to August 09, 2008. The following is a brief summary of some of the more notable events:

Reckless Driving, 08/05/2008, 1600 blk East Lakeshore Dr
A 16-year-old male was cited for Reckless Driving. Officers were contacted about a male driving erratically in a local recreational center parking lot were several children were playing. When the officer arrived on scene the vehicle was parked and a witness identified the driver and the vehicle. The driver denied driving recklessly and stated “that he was having mechanical trouble with his vehicle”. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor for review.

Possession of drug Paraphernalia (VUCSA), Driving While License Suspended (DWLS 3°), Refusal to Give Information to/or Cooperate w/Officer, No Valid Identification, 08/07/08, SR 9 and Sr 92
A 23-year-old male was booked for Vucsa, DWLS 3°, Refusal to Give Information or Cooperate, No Valid Identification, and Warrant Service and a 26-year old male was booked for Vucsa. The officer stopped the vehicle after he observed the rear license plate light was not working. The driver of the vehicle did not have any identification on his person and he gave a false name. When the true identity of the driver was discovered he was found to have a suspended driver’s license and multiple warrants. The 26-year-old male was arrested for Vucsa after a search of the vehicle revealed several hypodermic needles. Both males were booked into jail.

Assault 4° Domestic Violence (DV), 08/07/08, 10200 blk of Lundeen Parkway
A 28-year-old male was booked for Assault 4°DV. Officers were dispatched to a disturbance call where the reporting party said that they could hear a male vs. female argument that seemed to be escalating. When officers arrived on scene the female stated that they had a verbal disagreement, but upon further investigation it was disclosed that the male had thrown her against the refrigerator and kicked her feet out from under her. The male was arrested and taken to jail.

Theft 2°, 08/08/08, 9600 blk of Market Pl
A 26-year-old male reported that he had been a victim of robbery forty minutes earlier. The unknown male reached into his vehicle and took the victim’s money and fled the scene in his vehicle. The victim got in his vehicle and chased the suspect in attempt to get his money back. The suspect crashed and threw the money out the window at the victim. The victim then called 911, which he stated that he had not thought to do prior to chasing the suspect. He was advised that his would have been the preferred method. The victim provided the vehicle license plate number and the case was forwarded to the detectives for further investigation.

Obstructing, 08/09/08, 9400 blk of 4th St NE
A 24-year-old male was arrest for obstructing. An officer observed the vehicle making an illegal turn and told the male to stop his vehicle. The driver continued to drive his vehicle, then park it and run from the officer. The male was located and taken to jail for obstructing.
