Lights and Sirens
The police department responded to 453 incidents in the week of November 16, 2008 to November 22, 2008. The following is a brief summary of some of the more notable events: Assault 2, 11/17/08, 1100 blk Frontier Circle
An assault report was taken and forwarded to detectives for additional investigation. Officers contacted the 18-year-old male victim who stated that 3-4 unknown male suspects assaulted him in the parking lot using brass knuckles. The suspects then fled the area. K-9 assistance was requested from another agency, but officers were unable to locate the suspects. Video footage of the incident will be reviewed by detectives to identify the suspects for criminal charging.
Theft 2, 11/19/08, 700 blk Sr 9
A theft report was filed when a security officer observed a male exit the business without paying for the items in his cart. The store staff confronted the male who quickly got into his vehicle and sped off. Store staff estimated the value of the items taken to be approximately $500. Officers contacted the employees who were able to provide suspect information. The case is under investigation pending criminal charges.
False Statement/Driving with a Suspended License, 11/19/08, 300 blk 91st Ave Ne
A 24-year-old male and a 22-year-old female were booked into jail on active arrest warrants and for a making a false statement to a police officer. While on patrol, an officer observed a vehicle being driven with expired tabs and stopped the car. The officer contacted the driver and a computer check of his identification revealed that he had a suspended driver’s license and an active arrest warrant. The female passenger was contacted and gave the officer a fake name in an attempt to elude arrest on her warrant. The female was identified and placed under arrest. Both were transported to jail and the vehicle was impounded.
Eluding a Police Officer/Attempted Assault 2, 11/20/08, 1200 blk N. Machias Road
A 31-year-old male was booked into jail for eluding police and attempted vehicular assault. While on patrol, officers observed a vehicle being driven erratically and attempted to stop the car. The driver did not stop and a pursuit was initiated. The male continued driving recklessly when he attempted to hit a police car head-on, attempted to hit a dump truck head-on, attempted to strike a stopped vehicle with his car, and forced several more vehicles to move to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle broke down and the male was placed into custody without incident; stating that he ran because he is on active probation and did not want to go back to jail. The male was transported to jail.
