L.S. Haggen closes its
“Just for Kids”

BY PAM STEVENS | EDITOR Lake Stevens Haggen has always tried to provide for their customer’s needs and their Just for Kids childcare room has been a favorite to many busy moms within the community.

As of Saturday, Feb. 28, Haggen’s Lake Stevens store will no longer be providing their Just for Kids room to shoppers.

“We have mailed out letters to our frequent customers and store managers have called many of them personally,” Becky Skaggs, Vice-President of Strategy & Consumer Insights for Haggen, Inc. said.

Last August, Haggen placed a sign inside their store letting customers know that they would be closing Just for Kids that weekend, however, outcry from their customers made them reconsider the closing.

“When it happened last August, we got an amazing outpouring of response from customers,” Skaggs said.

Because of a downturn in the economy and a continued decline usage of the rooms, Haggen, Inc. has decided it will be best to shut down some of their Just for Kids rooms.

“We are now closing eight of them,” Skaggs said. “As we have opened new stores we have not added any Just for Kids.”

Haggen is in the process of relocating Just for Kids employees to other departments within their stores. For some employees, this will be beneficial because of increased hours or benefits, for others, it may not work with what positions are available.

“The people that work there have been offered positions in the store,” Skaggs explained. “We need to focus on our core business – it’s tough right now.”

Haggen will still provide activity days including their graham cracker houses at Christmas, their Halloween event and many others throughout the year.
