Children’s book author teaches both young and old

Lake Stevens author, Gabriel Bench, has written a children’s book that teaches us that we are each given unique talents and traits.

Bench, posing with his wife Sandy, will be selling and signing his book at Bartell Drugs this Saturday, just in time for Easter.

Easter is fast approaching and Lake Stevens author, Gabriel Bench has written Ester Bunny, which is a tale of the fabled Easter Bunny. The story teaches the reader that dreams do come true and that we all have attributes worth sharing.

“There are really several messages in Ester Bunny that are pertinent for today’s times for both youth and adults,” Bench said. “We all have unique God given talents and abilities that the world can benefit from; follow your dreams and things will work out; for adults, look for opportunities to encourage and mentor youth; sometimes the greatest rewards come out of the toughest trials, and never underestimate the hand of God at work.”

Bench’s story, which is beautifully illustrated by artist Pete Berg, came from a desire to entertain his own children.

Ester Bunny is the first in a series of three books. Evan Bunny and Ella Bunny will soon be released.

“Evan, Ester’s grandson, is quite the hot shot as he encounters unexpected results that require humility and courage to get him through,” Bench said of his next book. “Ella is one of those unique bunnies that is always happy.”

Bench and his wife Sandy, have lived in Lake Stevens for 31 years. They have three children, who are all college graduates and each of them are married.

He and his wife love to serve within the community and are currently volunteers at The Lake Church and Gabriel is currently serving on the Snohomish County Children’s Commission.

As a youth, Bench had the reputation of protecting vulnerable youth from being bullied. As a young adult he worked in youth programs where he focused on venues that nurtured youth’s well-being and healthy development.

“Through his adult years, he continues to prioritize his community involvement towards efforts that nurture and encourage youth in positive ways,” his wife Sandy said.

Bench hopes to share his book with others and that his readers will find it entertaining and will also learn a life lesson within its pages. One employee from his printing company stated it best.

“I am particularly pleased that the work that you have put together has the potential to bear fruit of a permanent nature…to impact the minds and the lives of others especially those of children, in a positive nature is the maximum profit one can realize,” he said.

Will Ester give up on her dreams when she is teased and faces rejection for using her unique abilities, or will wise counsel encourage her to press on? If Ester gives up, the world may never know one of its most fabled characters, the Easter Bunny.

Bench will be signing his book at Bartell Drugs in Lake Stevens on Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
