Armed Forces Day celebrated in downtown Lake Stevens
JOURNAL STAFF Armed Forces Day 2009 will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m. where American Legion Post 181 has organized a formation flyover and a community-wide “Support Our Troops” photo opportunity. After the community photos have been taken, all honorably-discharged veterans and their families are invited to a free barbeque and free veterans burial benefits seminar.
All events will be held at the War Memorial and Community Center, 1812 124th Ave NE in downtown Lake Stevens. For more information contact American Legion Commander Tony Morea at amorea@hotmail.com or at 360-631-3242.
Community members who want to show support for the troops at home and abroad will have a large group photo taken at the War Memorial which will be sent to our military men and women. Members of the BlackJacks Flying Club from Arlington will conduct a formation fly-over across Lake Stevens and the War Memorial at exactly 1 p.m.
They will also fly a second time with the “Missing Man” formation which started in World War II when squadrons returned from missions without aircraft that were shot down. The BlackJacks are former commercial and military pilots who are often seen flying their single-engine aircraft together in the skies over Snohomish County.
Come on out on Saturday and show your support!
