L.S. Rotary Club hands out college scholarships

JOURNAL STAFF On Friday, May 15, the Lake Stevens/Granite Falls Rotary Club handed out over $7,000 worth of scholarship money to deserving teens from both Lake Stevens and Granite Falls High Schools.

“We are proud of what you young people do in this community. So thank you,” Dean Franz, Rotary Vocational Chairman said before announcing the winners.

Parents and Rotarians were on hand to cheer the 2009 graduates as they received their awards.

Each of the recipients will be attending a different college this fall, some of which include University of Washington, Western Washington, Brigham Young University and Reed College.

The winners were Chelen Boren, Derek Hahn, Erin Guy, Ryan Legg, Tylor Jones, Caitlin Tintle and Clara Reid from Lake Stevens High School and Kari Bray, Rose Livermore and Nicole Deprey form Granite Falls High School.

The scholarships were awarded in both $500 and $1,000 increments.
