Longtime Viking boys basketball coach Norm Lowery, Jr. (at Lake from 1989-2003) was honored for his 31-year coaching career with his induction into the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame at an awards banquet at Comcast Arena in Everett on July 30.

Lowery’s induction was very much a family affair, as his brother Mike Lowery was similarly honored at the event for his 25-year coaching tenure at Marysville.

The pair were introduced by brother Tom Lowery, himself a former basketball coach (at Mariner), who shared some humorous memories of their growing up as the sons of the late coaching legend Norm Lowery (Everett High School), who was inducted into membership in the same Hall of Fame in 1982.

Longtime Lake Stevens residents, Norm and Mike and their families are well-known in the community.
Viking alum (and Viking Hall of Famer) Marv Harshman is also a WIBCA Hall member (inducted in 1990) in addition to his many national honors as one of America’s greatest basketball coaches (Pacific Lutheran, Washington State, and Washington Universities).
