Lake Stevens American Legion Auxiliary announces 2009 Evergreen Girls State recipients

Alyschia McDowell

Lake Stevens students, Alyschia McDowell and Caitlin Obee, were selected to participate in the 2009 Evergreen Girls State which took place at Central Washington University. 

Throughout the week of June 14, McDowell and Obee joined over 250 girls from around the state in a variety of activities including mock trials, solving city, county and state issues, debate at the legislative level as well as other issues.
Junior class girls are selected through applications each year, to be a candidate for a week long leadership program focusing on self-governing and the privileges and responsibilities of American citizenship.
McDowell, a Lake Stevens Home Link student will be entering her senior year in September. 

She also attends the Culinary Department of Sno-Isle Skills Center, is a member of LSHS swim and bowling teams, and volunteers her time in several areas of the community. Her parents are Mike and Sherry McDowell.
Obee will be a senior at Lake Stevens High School.  She volunteers in the FCCLA Star events, Big Viking - Little Viking program at elementary schools.  Obee has volunteered in community groups throughout high school.  She also plays on te high school soccer, basketball and tennis teams.  He parents are Dave and Susan Obee.
