Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, SMART, continue to investigate the Aug. 6 deputy-involved shooting at the truck scales on Highway 9, north of Soper Hill Road.
Detectives have learned that the man, Shawn Larson, 39, was shot in the head by a 33-year-old Sheriff’s deputy after a motorist flagged down the deputy, reporting that Larson was driving erratically.
Larson had a gun zip-tied and taped to his hand. They also finished searching the man’s truck as part of the investigation, Rebecca Hover, spokesperson for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. This is the fourth police-involved shooting in Snohomish County this year.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation. He is a two-year veteran of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and has been in law enforcement previously.
SMART is a police task force set-up to investigate police involved shootings. Homicide detectives from several agencies are members of this task-force.
Once the investigation is complete it will be forwarded to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office for review, Hover said.
