A surprise to some in the Granite Falls community is the fact the Granite Falls Police Department has animal shelter services for lost or abandoned animals.
If your pet is lost, or you have found an animal roaming the streets, the Granite Falls Police Department is the place to start your search and rescue efforts.
They also keep a written record of animals which may have been found by members of the community, Code Enforcement Officer Gary McLoughlin said.
Pet owners can locate their animal more easily by calling the police and checking their records. They also work with fostering locations for animals that are not claimed.
“The last couple of dogs have been trained as bomb-sniffing dogs,” McLoughlin explains. A black lab named Mac, who was rescued at the department’s shelter, is now working at DisneyWorld sniffing for bombs.
