Puget Sound Energy employee and Lake Stevens resident Will Brandt, along with fellow PSE employee Dom Amor give the Lake Stevens Food Bank a check for $500. The money will go to help feed local families during the holiday season. Times are tough and that is evident when you see the line of people waiting for food at the Lake Stevens Food Bank.
Because of the economy and with the holidays approaching, Puget Sound Energy employee and Lake Stevens resident Will Brandt wanted to be able to help local families in need.
“I found out there was a need, so here I am,” Brandt said.
Brandt talked to fellow employee Dom Amor, who is the Local Government and Community Relations Manager for PSE to see what could be done to help the food bank.
“Will made a recommendation to help the Lake Stevens Food Bank,” Amor said. “PSE is a big supporter of the community we work in. This time of year we realize they have greater need.”
Amor and Brandt handed a $500 check to Jim Foster, Director of the Lake Stevens Food Bank and Mitch Robinson, who also volunteers at the food bank.
The money will come in handy for those needing food for their upcoming holiday meals.
“It means everything for this holiday season,” Foster explains. “It will buy several meals.”
Currently, the food bank has asked over 20 churches in the area to help fill the Thanksgiving food baskets this year. The government and local service clubs are donating the turkeys. However, more families are calling everyday looking for help.
“We served almost 400 families this past month and our average for the past year is 325 families. Our storage is now empty and the shelves are getting bare,” Robinson said.
