Lake Stevens wins 11th straight Wesco District Team Championship.
For the 11th year in a row, the Lake Stevens High School wrestling team took home the gold at the two-day Class 4A Northwest District Wrestling Championships last weekend.
This brings the Vikings 19 out of the last 20 team district titles.
Competing against 13 other teams, Lake received a score of 399 points with Marysville-Pilchuck coming in second place with 329 points and Snohomish coming in third place with 284 points.
Individual district champions from the Viking team include freshman Eric Soler (103 pounds), senior and two-time champ at 112 pounds, Josh Heinzer, Junior Ryan Rodrigo (119 pounds) and Sophomore Steven Walkley who weighed in at 135 pounds.
Second place finishes went to 140 pound Andrew King and 160 pound Jacob Anderson.
The Vikes also had four third place winners including Jesse Peterson at 103 pounds, 130 pound Kinsey Johnson, Brandon Belcher at 171 pounds and at 189 pounds, Justin Grow.
Fourth place finishers include Jack Reeves at 135 pounds and Cody Schlosser at 285 pounds.
Ryan Olliges, 152 pounds and Brandon Johnson at 215 pounds both finished in fifth place.
Each of these wrestlers will be heading to regionals, which will be held next weekend in Auburn.
This district tournament is the first step in the wrestling postseason.
The top eight individual finishers in each of the 14 weight divisions qualified for regionals where wrestlers from Wesco and the South Puget Sound League (SPSL) North Division will try to qualify for the Mat Classic State championships at the Tacoma Dome.
Lake Stevens is the three-time defending state-champion.
