Several Lake Stevens High School wrestlers made the trip to Virginia Beach, Virginia to compete in the 2010 NHSCA (National High School Coaches Association) National High School wrestling championship the week of March 23-28.
These local wrestlers joined 47 states and two European countries all vying for wrestling’s top honors. The Vikings brought home four wrestlers who achieved All American status by placing in the top eight competitors in their weight class.
Senior Josh Heinzer won the Senior Division in the 112-pound weight class by defeating Alex Gilpin from Texas 13-6.
Heinzer is a three time Washington State 4A State Champion.
Josh Villani, a junior, took sixth place in the 160-pound Junior division while sophomore Steven Walkley took seventh in the 135-pound sophomore division.
Freshman Brandon Johnson also took seventh place but in the 215-pound freshmen division. The NHSCA Senior Nationals Finals was shown on ESPN360 on Sunday, March 28. Over 2,600 wrestlers competed in the national championships.
