On Saturday, April 24, everyone in Lake Stevens is invited to a community-wide Pancake Breakfast at Cavelero Mid-High School. Breakfast will be served from 7:45 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
The purpose of this event is to raise money and awareness for the Lake Stevens Family Center and to raise much-needed funds to increase the capacity at the Lake Stevens Family Center to help meet the emergent needs of community members.
Local Social Service agencies and utilities have run out of funds, the needs persist, and are occurring unexpectedly and requiring urgent action.
Several service organizations are cooperating in this event, and most of the costs will be underwritten by these organizations so that all possible proceeds can be directed at these serious needs.
The Lake Stevens Firemen’s Association will be donating their grilles and skills, and will be ably assisted by the Fireman’s Union Local .
The Lake Stevens Kiwanis, the Lake Stevens and Granite Falls Rotary Club, the Lake Stevens Lions Club and the Lake Stevens American Legion Post, as well as the Lake Stevens Police Cadets and other individual volunteers will be working to assure this breakfast fundraiser is a success.
In the words of Family Center Program Coordinator, Linda Rudat: “We are seeing a marked increase in people coming to the Center in acute crisis. This is a strong indicator of a decline in community well-being on many levels: financial wholeness, positive family interactions, awareness of safety networks, and protective outlets for increased stress instead of turning to violence, despair or addiction. We are working on all of the above, but sought community “synergy” in thinking of ways to keep the Center sustainable and add to its core staff while we respond to these critical needs.”
