The Youth Advisory Council, YAC, of Lake Stevens will be holding their sixth annual youth forum on Wednesday, May 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lake Stevens High School cafeteria.
Each year the kids come together to collectively decide what issue is most pertinent in their lives today. This year the YAC kids picked the topic Fragile Hope and want to talk with community leaders, parents and adults about teen depression and suicide.
Many community youth face situations daily that can cause a lack of hope. Everyday our youth come in contact with people whose impact on their lives will be either positive or negative. If we connect with a youth one day whose sense of hopelessness is more then they can handle, a single positive moment may be the much needed turning point. In which lies our role in the community.
The change of economy doesn’t just affect the adults of our community. The solid foundation the kids stand on is being rocked. Dads and Moms aren’t working, parents are fighting, and families are losing their homes. We can’t forget how out of control this may feel to the kids in this situation with no one to turn to for help. Attendance of the community will send the message to our youth that adults are listening and care enough to provide hope for those kids who feel there is none.
This event is hosted by the Lake Stevens Family Center. For more information please contact Kirsten Mueller at 425-397-7433.
