At the May 12 regularly scheduled school board meeting Lake Stevens Superintendent David Burgess announced his retirement effective August 1, 2011.

Superintendent Burgess has worked for LSSD for 16 years.  His positions have included the principalship of LSHS, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, Deputy Superintendent of Human Resources and finally, Superintendent.

Superintendent Burgess reflected, “I have been in education my entire life —going to school, becoming a teacher and a coach, and finally continuing my education to enable me to go into a leadership role.  I know from my experiences, and from my heart, how incredibly vital public education is for the success of our children and our nation.  I will always be a champion for public education as I have seen firsthand the miracles it has worked.  I’m proud to work in a field that makes positive differences every day.”

The school board will now begin the work of developing a hiring plan for the next leader of LSSD.
