The results of the First Annual Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby, held on May 22, have been recorded and according to all those who participated, it was a wonderful success.
The production was organized by the Snohomish Sportsmen’s Council and the Lake Stevens Lions Club.
There were 285 adult participants who weighed in 80 individual large Kokanee in hopes of winning first prize award of $1,000 sponsored by Dick Nite Spoons.
They also had 69 full “bag limits” weighed for a shot at the $500.
The cash prizes were worth a total of well over $3,000 and there were additional prizes awarded with bags full of gift certificates, fishing lures, rods, reels and other items of interest to avid sport anglers.
There were also seven trout weighed and 75 kids derby participants weighed in 24 fish of various species.
Funds earned from the event will go towards both the Lions Club and the Snohomish Sportsmen’s Council.
According to Mark Spada, president of the Sportsmen’s Council, their share of the proceeds will go towards fisheries enhancements and angler opportunities within Snohomish County.
Any funds made by the Lake Stevens Lions Club goes back into the community.

3rd place with a prize of $250 Brad Savinski 1.23 pounds sponsored by John’s Sporting Goods.
4th place with a prize of $100 Joe Hart 1.21 pounds sponsored by Triangle Bait

1st place with a prize of $500 Travis Welch 8.46 pounds sponsored by 3 Rivers Marine & Tackle.
2nd place with a prize of $250 Brandon Doucet 8.25 pounds sponsored by McDaniel’s Do It Center.
Gene Rich 1.06 pounds with a $500 prize sponsored by Trout Lodge/Cooperative Trout Enhancement Program.
The Kid’s Derby was sponsored by Greg’s Custom Rods in Lake Stevens. The winners are:
1st place with a prize of $100 Mackenzie Ramsey 3.95 pound bass.
2nd place with a prize of $75 Rodney Badgett 2.30 pound bass.
3rd place with a prize of $50 Logan Tonsgard 2.08 pound trout.
