Family and friends of cancer patients write letters to their loved
ones after they have lost their battle with this horrible disease. Please join Team Aquafest, The Aquafest Queen and Ambassadors as they walk for 24 hours to raise donations and cancer awareness at North Snohomish County Relay for Life Event located at Asbury Field at 1605 7th St. in Marysville. The 24 hour walk represents the fight against cancer that never sleeps. The opening ceremony starts at 1 p.m.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Tom Huxford who is an American Cancer Society sponsored researcher from San Diego State University. Dr. Huxford is volunteering his time to share with the teams, survivors and the communities the exciting news about the type of research that he has been doing.
Dr. Huxford is the brother of 2010 Aquafest president, Janice Huxford. She is also the Team Captain for Team Aquafest.
Also attending the event will be Marysville Mayor Dennis Kendall and Lake Stevens Mayor Vern Little.
Immediately following the opening ceremony the survivor/caregiver/family lap will be followed by theme laps starting at 2 p.m.
In addition, there will be onsite fundraisers at the individual team’s tent, a bouncy house, a board break-a-thon and a Black Belt performance and entertainment from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. by Diana Ruiz and Alfredo’s Electric DNA.
My first experience with the Relay for Life was in 2009 when I walked with the Aquafest Queens during our 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. leg. When I got there and saw the luminary bags still lit and the signs around the track and in particular “Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back,” I was overwhelmed with emotion.
I have lost my husband, mother, uncle, grandmother and my faithful black lab to this horrible disease.
Immediately after the event I signed up to volunteer and was given the ultimate volunteer position as the 2010 event chair. What an honor and privilege it has been.
I hope my involvement here will help raise awareness to what a village of volunteers can do for each other and their community.
I am Linda Elledge the 2010 Snohomish County North Relay for Life Event Chair.
