Hefferman receives Renshaw scholarship

Madeline “Bootsie” Heffernan has been awarded the Jill L. Renshaw Human Services Academic Scholarship for 2010. 

Hefferman has recently graduated from Lake Stevens High School and will be attending the University of Washington this fall.

Renshaw, a Lake Stevens graduate who lost her life in a tragic hiking accident while working for the U.S. Forest Service, was a sophomore at the University of Washington while focusing on a future in international relations or affairs.

Hefferman was awarded the $3,000 Academic Scholarship for maintaining her outstanding academic record and has received many departmental awards. At the same time she has been an active member of the Drama Club as Secretary/Treasurer, and has also participated in eight plays.

She received an honorable mention and a nomination for roles she has played while she was in drama.   
Hefferman was a member of Opera Club, French Club, a staff reporter for the school newspaper and volunteered for many community and school events. 

Hefferman’s goal in her future studies is our ecosystems.  Her goal is to become a conservational biologist.
