The non-profit American Cancer Society’s signature event the Relay for Life is coming to Lake Stevens for the first time, May 14 and 15, 2011.
On Sunday, Sept. 12 a meet and greet for the committee was hosted by the Blankenship family in Lake Stevens.
This event was well attended by committee chairs and their subcommittees. The most notable attendee was Mayor Vern Little. Little spoke to the group of why he participates in ‘Relay for Life” and his excitement and backing of the very first Lake Stevens Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is the largest non-profit fundraiser in the world.

It is an overnight event that raises cancer awareness, celebrates survivors and collects donations for the American Cancer Society, so that they can continue to work on finding a cure.
Out of proceeds raised from Relay for Life, 60 percent is allocated to research, 29 percent to Cancer Support Services and 11 percent to American Cancer Society overhead.
There are still open committee chair and sub committee positions including, the Advocacy, Food, Mission Delivery and Survivor.
