Car arsons took place on three seperate occasions in Lake Stevens.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 12, a 1995 Volvo station wagon was set ablaze at a home near the 3300 block of Lake Drive. The vehicle was parked on the street.
Less than a week later, on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4 a.m., a second vehicle arson took place on the 10700 block of 27th Street NE in Lake Stevens.
A 1993 Subaru Legacy, along with a 2007 Subaru Outback was set on fire while parked in the driveway of the victim’s home.
The Lake Stevens Police were called in to investigate all three vehicle fires and believe that both incidents are connected.
“Investigators have determined that there is a connection between the victims and believe that these are not random acts,” Lake Stevens Police said in a statement. “The primary driver of the vehicle destroyed in the September 12 arson, is a friend of the family whose vehicles were destroyed in the September 18 arson, and had, in fact, been driving one of the destroyed vehicles as a ‘loner’ during the week preceding the arson.”
The police are having evidence collected from both crime scenes analyzed by the state crime lab.
Witnesses are being interviewed and both families are cooperating in the investigation.
The Lake Stevens Police Department is asking for anyone with information regarding these crimes to please contact Detective Jeff Lambier at 425-334-9537.
