From left to right in the picture, they are Jens-Kristian Hoult, Shawn Cooper, Shaun Marti, and Kraig Looney.

Four boys in the same patrol in a local boy scout troop have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. They are all members of  Troop 42 (overseen by scoutmaster Brad Smith and committee chair Gary Baker)

All four of these boys are seniors at Lake Stevens High School this year and will graduate in June 2011. Of the four, three started together as Tiger Cubs (Cooper, Marti, and Hoult) in the first grade. They continued through the Cub Scout program, with their den growing to as many as 10 boys at one time, with eight of them “crossing over” to Boy Scouts midway through fifth grade.  They have all attended multiple summer camps, camp-outs, hikes, various troop and patrol outings, service projects, flag retirement ceremonies, Christmas Caroling outings, and weekly troop meetings. Looney joined the patrol in the 8th grade and of the eight boys that crossed over from Cub Scouts, four  have made it to the rank of Eagle Scout.  That is quite an accomplishment since only four percent of all scouts make it to the rank of Eagle Scout.

All four of these boys have been involved in ASB and/or Leadership at Lake Stevens High School, competitive sports (track, tennis, soccer), mentoring programs, and other activities.  Hoult and Marti have been active members of their respective churches, youth groups, and have attended mission trips.  Cooper has a letter of assurance to attend West Point next year; Marti has been accepted to Gonzaga and Willammette Universities; and Looney and Hoult’s college choices are not yet finalized.
All four now admit that going through 12 years of scouting is definitely worth it when you finally achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, and it is an achievement you will always be proud of.

Special thanks to American Legion Post 181 for their sponsorship of Troop 42 Scouts in Lake Stevens.
