The Youth Advisory Council, YAC, supported by the Lake Stevens Family Center that is made up of youth ranging from middle school through high school is holding their seventh annual youth forum.
Each year the kids come together to collectively decide what issue is most pertinent in their lives today. This year the YAC kids picked the topic substance abuse and underage drinking and want to talk with community leaders, parents and adults about this issue from their perspective.
Since statistics report that 72 percent of kids will have consumed alcohol by the end of high school the importance of addressing this situation is of utmost importance.
Discussions will include the accessibility of drugs and alcohol in our community, how to tell if your child is using and suggestions for prevention before it becomes an issue. In response to these topics local resource booths will be there to talk about their programs and the services they provide to support families success.
On March 31, 2011 at the Lake Stevens School District room A from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the youth forum will take place. Community service hours will be given for any teen that attends with a parent/guardian. For more information please call the Lake Stevens Family Center at 425-397-7433.
