Crowds packed downtown Lake Stevens this past weekend for the 51st annual Aquafest bringing loads of fun and top notch entertainment to over 30,000 festival goers.
The carnival rides were a huge hit, especially with the teens and pre-teens who played well into the nights. The kiddie rides kept the smaller kids happy until the Family FunFest on Sunday afternoon where tots dove for pennies in the hay, dashed in their diapers, crafted to their hearts content and some even got to see who could eat the most pizza in the shortest amount of time.
There was an array of sporting events throughout the weekend, on land and on the water. Of course the Waterski tournament, the event that started the Aquafest tradition over 50 years ago, included wakeboarders too. This tournament continues to grow each year.
Other water events included the $50 boat race which is always a crowd pleaser, where the most creative engineering minds take to the water to see how long they can stay afloat and make it back to the finish line.
Try-It Rowing also took people to the water, in much classier looking boats, however.
Competitive runs from the kid’s one mile Fun Run to the 10k and even a quadrathon, kept runners of all levels satisfied.
Disc golf, tennis, basketball, soccer and softball each brought in teams from Snohomish County.
Sunday’s Celebrity Softball Game was in it’s the third year and the third time was the charm for our local Lake Stevens celebs who came home with a big win over Jeff “the Fish” Aaron’s team. The final score was 15-7.
It looked like almost everyone in Lake Stevens got to enjoy breakfast at Fire Station 82. Families waited in line to sample the fluffy pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs and delicious ham, all cooked and served by our local firefighters. It was well worth the wait.
The fireworks show was once again stunning and was the perfect end to a perfect Saturday at Aquafest.
After three parades, dozens of sporting events, mouth watering food and a weekend full of fun for everyone, including the family pets, Aquafest has come to a close.
Thanks to all of those who spent countless hours to ensure an exciting, safe and memorable 2011 Aquafest!
