Today  Safeway began its 10 percent Back to Schools promotion that donates ten percent of the sales from participating items to the shopper’s school of choice.  This past January, the same program yielded $6,659 for the Highland Elementary PTA.  The program has been a very welcome avenue for additional funding at a time of continuing budget cuts for schools.

Shoppers can participate in the program in three easy steps: (1) Locate the yellow school bus tags; (2) Use a Safeway Club card to purchase the items; (3) Go to the eScrip website to choose a local school to which the 10 percent will be donated at the end of the program.

The program runs for five weeks, beginning on August 10th and ending on September 13th.  Over the past six years, the program has raised $19 million dollars for local schools participating in the program.
