Ironman fills downtown with athletes, onlookers

 Ironman 70.3 brought hundreds of athletes to downtown Lake Stevens for the sixth time Sunday, August 14.
 The town was bustling by 6 a.m. with athletes, their families,  friends and local onlookers.

The race began with a 1.2 mile swim in the lake followed by a partial double-looped 56 mile bike ride that took athletes through Lake Roesigner Park.

The 13.1-mile run course is last and takes athletes out of downtown and into the residential area of Lake Stevens.
Competitors were racing for $15,000 and 500 Pro Ranking points towards qualifying for the Ironman World Championships.
Australian Luke Bell took first place for Professional Men. This is Bell’s third title in Washington state and fourth appearance at Ironman Lake Stevens.

American Tyler Stewart took first place for Professional Women with a more than ten minute lead on her competitors.
