Lake Stevens resident Barb Torgenson is using her rock and roll past and love for music to be a disk jockey. Torgenson works for a nonprofit internet radio station Party 934.com and broadcasts four times a week from her local home.
“I’m here at Party 934 to give some great music, answer life’s questions, and find ‘that perfect song’ for your situation,” Torgenson said.
Party 934 streams online 24/7 worldwide and also on 94.9 FM in Hudson Valley, New York.
Torgenson has music in her blood, she spent her childhood growing up backstage of the Grand Ole Opry. Her mother and uncle were country entertainers and the family lived and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
“During the school year my dad was a promoter and brought celebrities such as George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, etc. to the Twin Cities for auditorium shows. They were most often houseguests at our home while in town,” Torgenson said.
Torgenson spent the late 60’s as the lead singer and drummer in a rock and roll band. In the 70’s after getting married she worked as a morning show DJ for KVAC in Forks, Wash.
“I love music and communicating through lyrics. Everything that you want to say, but can’t find the words, has been written by someone who knew what you wanted to express and got paid pretty well to do it,” she said.
