A room full of friends, family and co-workers of Jim Mitchell and Jack Hatlan applauded the two men for the decades of service as Commissioners of the Lake Stevens Sewer District.

Mitchell, who has served on the board for over 20 years, was an integral part of the success of the sewer district in its early years and since.

He was recognized as a commissioner who challenged others for the good of the lake and the citizens of the city he has lived in since he was born.

Hatlan, who served as a commissioner for 13 years, was known for his strong ethics and his deep understanding of the environmental impact the sewer system has on a community. Hatlan was also instrumental in ensuring that the district’s employees were taken care of for the years of service.

The two were honored at a retirement reception held on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the district’s Sherwood office.
They were each given plaques and scrapbooks showing the work they have accomplished over the years.
